They call me Mister Latin Jazz because I support San Francisco Bay Area Jazz and Latin Jazz education and performance. I help underwrite and document the artists that create the music and expose them to young people as the core of my volunteer activities. I am the Chairman of the Board of Directors of San Jose Jazz, Chairman of the Board of San Francisco's Yerba Buena Gardens Festival, Co-Founder and Managing Director of The Latin Jazz Youth Ensemble of San Francisco and a Co-Founder of Latino Entertainment Partners. My name is Arturo Riera but you can call me Mister Latin Jazz!
Here is an example of my work. In collaboration with John Santos, Linda Lucero, Ray Moisa and Bill Martinez we created a special tribute to legendary artist, Armando Peraza at Yerba Buena Gardens. Peraza and many Latin Jazz artists are long overdue for the kind of recognition we are able to secure for Armando. Thousands came to pay tribute and enjoy a day of pure Cuban Rumba supported by instrument manufacturer, Latin Percussion and their endorsers. That day only voices and drums were heard but it made sense since San Francisco had officially proclaimed it was Armando Peraza Day and the crowd roared in delight!
